Lack of uniform color temperature — bad quality control?, December 10, 2012

I’m not sure why this product is listed as two different items on amazon, but you can read more reviews of this same product here: Ge Energy Smart 100 LED Icicle-style Warm White Lights. As others have reported, there is a very noticeable lack of uniformity in color temperature between different strings of these lights. I purchased 10 strings from Costco this week of this exact same product, and 7 of them have a “cooler” white temperature, while 3 of them have a “warmer” white temperature. I’ve posted a picture comparing some of the strings, so you can see the difference in color temperature. There is also slight variation within the cooler strings, and variation within the warmer strings. I would have thought that the manufacturer would have better control over color temperature.

If not for the inconsistent color temperature, these would otherwise be good icicle-style lights. I also purchased multiple sets of the Philips Heavy Duty 200 icicle lights (incandescent) from Target, thinking I would prefer the warmer temperature of incandescent lights over LED lights (which I do), but the Philips lights came all tangled/bunched up, and didn’t hang nicely in separate icicle strings compared to the GE LED lights. In the end, I’ve decided to stick with the GE lights, but I’ll need to make a trip to Costco to buy another 10 sets, just so I can pick out 10 uniform color temperatures out of 20 total sets!

Needed to send back 2 out of three that I had ordered. Both failed within the first 6 weeks installed. Anything else I need to say about them?

The lantern doesn’t put out as much light as a comparable oil lantern. Not quite up to the illumination level I expected. Not terrible, just more as a novelty than as a light source. I would have liked to have seen a comparable wattage or lumen rating.

I brought this product with me when I went back to the Philippines. And in times of browouts which occur so often during typhoons and hurricanes, this product becomes very useful. Just turn the knob and there is light. It is a very convenient and handy product. No more searching for candles and matches. It is so safe to use so I don’t need to worry in case I fall asleep while waiting for electricity to be reconnected.

Cute little led lantern, August 5, 2011

I love the rustic copper look on this lantern. It works great as a nightlight. The light output can be adjusted with the dimmer switch. I have mine hanging on the wall so that’s it out of the way but where I can turn the dimmer switch up when needed. I bought it mainly for power outages, but it helped that it’s cute as well. It came right on schedule!
